How China became the global renewables leader
Report summary
Over the last decade, China has become the world's renewables leader. In recent years, China's wind and solar additions have been more than double the US and EU combined. While some other markets are moderating renewables targets, China has pushed up its 2025 wind and solar outlook by 43%, or 380 GW, since it first announced its 2060 carbon neutrality target in September 2020. How has China managed to achieve low curtailment while maintaining high-speed renewables growth? Will the growth be sustained? This insight aims to provide an analysis of the drivers that support China's domestic market and underpin its global leadership in scale and increasingly, technology.
