Copper mines: Powering to zero carbon
Report summary
The energy transition and green sectors are driving demand for copper. However, if the metal's supply chain fails to decarbonise, copper’s position as an enabler for net zero global emissions will be undermined. Power generation is the first stage to tackle in a full zero carbon roadmap. For most, it is the least capital-intensive step and is a pre-requisite to fully decarbonising operations. And within the copper mining industry, the quickest emissions reductions are being made through changes to electricity supply.
